Monday's Fox Valley roundup
Jacobs 6, McHenry 3: Freshman Katie Kirker stepped into the circle for her first varsity start, struck out nine, walked one and allowed just 5 hits in a complete-game effort as Jacobs (11-8, 5-1) maintained a one-game lead in the Fox Valley Conference Valley Division. Sam Vojtsek was 2-for-3 with a double, while Jenna Teson and Kelsey Peterson each went 3-for-3 for the Golden Eagles.
Woodstock 1, Cary-Grove 0: Cary-Grove managed just 4 hits off Woodstock's Taylor Schulty in this FVC Valley loss. Meredith Riemann had a double for the Trojans (10-11, 3-3) and Lindsey Marshall (5-7) was the losing pitcher. She allowed just 3 hits and struck out eight.
Huntley 12, Grayslake Central 2: Deana DeBosschere was 2-for-4 with a double, a home run and 5 RBI as Huntley (15-9, 5-2) rolled in the FVC Fox. Kelsey Hagan (2-for-4, 2 RBI) also had a home run for the Red Raiders and Sarah Clancy was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Sam Clemons (14-7) picked up the win, allowing 3 hits and striking out five.
Waubonsie Valley 5, Streamwood 3: Bri Bodgewicz had 2 RBI and Delaney O'Malley drove in a run but the Sabres (1-16, 1-8) fell short in the Upstate Eight. Jenna Szabo was the losing pitcher.
CL South 11, Dundee-Crown 0: Crystal Lake South (15-6, 3-3) snapped its three-game losing streak with this FVC Valley win. Kaitlin Hardie was 2-for-3 with a double and 2 RBI and Emily Mahoney was 3-for-5 with 3 RBI for the Gators. Mahoney allowed 2 hits and struck out 11 in picking up her 10th win of the season against 4 losses. Emilie Kerkman suffered the loss for the Chargers (4-12, 0-6).
St. Edward 5, IC 0: Sarah Field allowed just 4 hits and struck out six as the Green Wave (12-9, 4-3) won in the Suburban Catholic Conference. Taylor Lundquist had a double and 2 RBI for St. Edward, while Kristina Brockner was 2-for-4, Madeline Foehringer was 2-for-4 with an RBI and Megan Smith had 2 RBI.
Burlington Central 19, North Boone 0: Mackenzie Scott threw a hitless 3 innings with 9 strikeouts and Jet Kein finished the final 2 innings allowing 1 hit with 3 strikeouts as the Rockets (12-3, 5-0) rolled in the Big Northern East. Kayla Oranger (3-for-3, 2B, 2 SBs), Brittany Priest (2-for-2, 3B, 2 SBs), Sam Gruner (2B, 2 RBI), Ashley Scheffler (2-for-4, 2 RBI), Jessica Herrmann (2B) and Haley Albamonte (2B) led BC's 13-hit attack.
