Thursday's Fox Valley roundup

Burlington Central 2, Richmond-Burton 1: Austin Jarvis provided all the offense Burlington Central (7-4, 1-0) needed Thursday as the Rockets picked up a 2-1 Big Northern East road victory against Richmond-Burton. Jarvis hit a solo home run in the fourth inning to tie the game at 1 before hitting a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning to score Sam Klein for what turned out to be the winning run. Klein picked up the victory on the mound as well as he pitched the final 1 2/3 innings giving up 2 hits while striking out three.

St. Charles East 5, Bartlett 3: Bartlett fell just short of victory in this Upstate Conference game. The Hawks led by 1 run heading into the top of the seventh inning, but the Saints plated 3 runs to take the lead and earn the win. Greg Partyka led the Hawks offensively with a 2-for-2 effort at the plate while teammate Alex Van Ness added a home run. Mike Tomsovic (3-1) suffered his first loss of the year for Bartlett.

Cary-Grove 10, Johnsburg 0: Matt Nelsen (3-0) continued his perfect record on the mound throwing a 1-hit shutout to lead Cary-Grove (9-4-1) to a victory over Johnsburg. Nelsen also added 7 strikeouts to his stellar performance. The Trojans were led offensively by Chris Waylock (3-for-4, 3B, RBI), Nick Hammonds (2-for-3), and Steve Hapanovich (2-for-4). Luke Mottashed also added a double.

Dundee-Crown 5, Grayslake North 4: Dundee-Crown (3-7-1) gave up 4 runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to send this nonconference game against Grayslake North into extra innings. The Chargers came back in the top of the eighth and scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch. Jake Romano (2-for-4, 2B, RBI), Chris Leifel (2B, 2 RBI), and Nick Torres (2-for-4, 3 SBs) led the Chargers on offense. Chris Sailor (1-1) earned the victory on the mound giving up no hits in 1 1/3innings of work while striking out three.

Streamwood 15, East Aurora 0: Streamwood (3-5-2, 2-1) started off slow before exploding with a 10-run seventh inning en route to this Upstate Eight Conference victory over East Aurora. Ryan Kiesel led the Sabres offensively turning in a 4-for-5, 2 double, 3 run effort at the plate while six other Streamwood players recorded 2 hits apiece. Josh Harris picked up the victory throwing a 1-hitter and striking out eight.

St. Edward 13, Westminster Christian 3: St. Edward (7-7, 2-1) pounded out 15 hits in this nonconference win. Chris Godfrey (3-for-5, 3RBI), Mike Kondrath (3-for-5, 3RBI), Tim Fraczek (2-for-4, 2 RBI), and Mo Quiroga (2-for-2, 2RBI) each recorded at least one double for the Green Wave to lead the offense. Julian Ramirez (1-0) picked up his first victory of the season pitching a complete game, giving up 5 hits while striking out five.

Hamshire 2, North Boone 1: Ryan Burke (1-0) picked up his first victory of the year for Hampshire (7-7, 1-1) as the Whip Purs held on to a win this Big Northern East game. Burke also led the Whip-Purs at the plate turning in a 2-for-3 effort while Ron Laramie also addded 2 hits in the victory.

Larkin 10, Lake Park 5: Larkin (8-7, 4-1) beat Lake Park in Upstate Eight Conference action as Justin Kalusa (2-0) earned the victory striking out 13 while scattering 9 hits. The Royals were led offensively by Luc Geier (3-for-4, 4RBI), Alex Wahl (3-for-4), and Jon Meidel (2-for-3, 2B, RBI).

Neuqua Valley 4, South Elgin 3: South Elgin (4-7, 1-3) fell just short in Upstate Eight Conference action. The Storm scored the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh inning before giving up 2 runs in the bottom half of the inning. Junior Sam Jordt (2-1) endured his first loss of the season pitching a solid game consisting of 8 strikeouts while scattering 7 hits over 62/3 innings. Andrew Buddle led the Storm offense going 2-for-4 with a double and 2RBI.
