• The Lombard AAUW used book sale runs Aug. 6-9 at First Church of Lombard, 220 S. Main St. The pre-sale is from 5 to 9 p.m. Aug. 6. Admission costs $7, $10 with a book scanner. The sale continues from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Aug. 7-8 and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 9, when a bag of books will cost $7. Admission is free. Sale proceeds benefit a college scholarship fund. The League of Women Voters will be on hand to register voters from 1 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Aug. 7; 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Aug. 8 and 9 to 11 a.m. Aug. 9. • Literacy DuPage is offering a six-session volunteer tutor training course from 6 to 9 p.m. Aug. 6, 11, 13, 18, 20 and Sept. 3 at the Westmont Public Library, 428 N. Cass Ave. Volunteers must be 18 or older, have a high school diploma and be able to read, write and speak English fluently. No teaching experience is necessary. Volunteers must attend all six training sessions. Tutors meet with their learners at a time and location that is convenient for both. • Local history expert Janis Arquette will lead an evening of sharing and remembering at 7 p.m. Aug. 7 in the Garden of Knowledge at the Bensenville Community Public Library, 200 S. Church Road. The library also is looking for the oldest living resident born in Bensenville and seeking help identifying class pictures from Tioga Elementary School, Blackhawk Junior High School and Bensenville High School taken in the 1940s to 1960s.
