Panel recommends Schaumburg’s first residential conversion of office space near Woodfield

Schaumburg’s first formal proposal for the residential conversion of an office building got an 8-0 recommendation from the zoning board for a largely vacant five-story structure south of Woodfield Mall. The village board will consider final approval Feb. 11 for creation of the 98-unit Woodfield Apartments at 1699 E. Woodfield Road.

Suburban shoppers will see significant changes as demolition work continues on malls in Bloomingdale and Lombard, and will soon start in West Dundee. Yorktown Center in Lombard, Stratford Square in Bloomingdale and Spring Hill in West Dundee are in the midst of a transformation as villages and ownership reimagine the retail centers.

A ‘new era’ for downtown Lisle? Developer proposes apartments, townhouses

A developer wants to bring new townhouses and a 30-unit, four-story apartment building to the periphery of downtown Lisle. Bridge Street Properties has proposed 56 townhouse units on the east and west sides of Center Avenue. Plans also call for a multifamily building, community open space and a half-acre parcel reserved for future commercial development along Ogden Avenue.

Des Plaines to buy — and raze — two buildings on Lee Street

With an eye on redevelopment, Des Plaines is buying two vacant buildings on Lee Street. The city council on Tuesday night voted to spend $420,000 to acquire the one-story commercial and two-story mixed-use buildings at 1096 Lee St. The taller building once was home to the Bott Heating Co. Both buildings have stood unused for years.

St. Charles’ eastern gateway to get major boost with Fox Haven Square

St. Charles planners approved development of Fox Haven Square, roughly seven acres of new retail earmarked at the northeast corner of Kirk Road and Main Street (Route 64), just west of Charlestowne Mall.

Newest Taqueria Invicto opens in Des Plaines

A fourth Taqueria Invicto restaurant has opened in the suburbs, this time in Des Plaines. The latest entry in the Mexican-style chain is at 2851 Mannheim Road, just north of the Jane Addams Memorial Tollway. It’s the first tenant in a new shopping center that’s a short drive south of the Allstate Arena and is near restaurants and hotels.

Enjoy special deals as Chicago and suburbs celebrate restaurant weeks

Though restaurant week may be best associated with Chicago dining, it isn’t just for city dwellers. Chicago’s 17-day event, which runs from Jan. 24 to Feb. 9, is just one of a number of restaurant weeks happening soon, including several in the suburbs.
