Literacy DuPage to host 'Reading Between the Vines,' an outdoor after-hours social

As one of Illinois' largest volunteer tutor literacy organizations, Literacy DuPage will host "Reading Between the Vines," an outdoor after-hours social on Thursday, May 18.

It will be held from 5:30 to 8 p.m. on the west patio at Arrowhead Golf Club, 26W151 Butterfield Road in Wheaton.

In case of rain, the event will be moved into the East Room in the clubhouse.

Socialize over wine and participate in the 50/50 raffle and the Lucky Number Auction to support Literacy DuPage's efforts to teach English to DuPage County adults with little to no language skills.

Literacy DuPage provides free, customized, one-to-one English literacy tutoring for lower-income adults. Some students are native English speakers, yet most are immigrants.

Proceeds from this spring fundraiser will support instruction for adults who have reached out to Literacy DuPage to improve their English language speaking, comprehension, reading, and writing skills. Volunteer tutors help learners understand and use English to become more self-sufficient. Communicating effectively and increasing fluency leads to safer, independent, and more productive lives.

Literacy DuPage Executive Director Bobbi Burgstone commented, "We greatly appreciate the support of sponsors Naperville Bank & Trust, Chicago Glue & Machine, Orrington Group, and Comcast, making possible more advanced English instruction for our adult learners."

Tickets to this fundraiser are $75 in advance and may be purchased at bit.ly/reading-between-the-vines. Wine, beer, soft drinks, and hors d'oeuvres are included.

Tickets at the door will be $100.

Established in 1972, Literacy DuPage annually serves more than 360 learners across DuPage County, engaging its corps of 350 volunteer tutors. Learners are men and women of all ages, nationalities, and social backgrounds. who seek assistance in learning English or improving their language skills for greater opportunities and better quality of life.
