Drop off household hazardous waste June 26 in Lake in the Hills

The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency, Lake in the Hills Sanitary District and the McHenry County Department of Health are partnering to hold a free, one-day household hazardous waste collection event in McHenry County. The event is open to all Illinois residents.

The one-day event will take place on Saturday, June 26, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Huntley Unit District 158's Reed Road Campus, 10910 Reed Road, Lake in the Hills.

All participants must access the event by entering the campus from Reed Road.

Attendees will need to remain in their vehicles at all times while they are at the collection site. Event staff will remove the household hazardous waste from vehicles.

A large turnout is expected. Waste collection will begin promptly at 8 a.m. and everyone who is in line by 3 p.m. will be able to drop off eligible waste. Vehicles that try to join the line after the event closes at 3 p.m. will be denied access.

Carpooling or designating one person to bring the household hazardous waste from several households is welcome.
