MCCD opens registration for summer camps
Kids can learn how to canoe, explore wetlands and prairies, cook over a campfire, restore a habitat, or camp out under the stars! McHenry County Conservation District's summer day camps provide all these opportunities as well as crafts, activities, games, fun, and more.

There is still room to explore:
• Young Explorers Camp at Glacial Park in Ringwood and Prairieview Education Center in Crystal Lake provide youth, ages 6-7, nonstop explorations. Here's a chance for younger children to enjoy a half-day summer camp with us. Through games, hikes and other fun activities, campers learn about the habitats of our conservation areas and the animals that live in them. They have the opportunity to explore wetlands, prairies and woodlands.
• Eco-Explorer Camp at Glacial Park in Ringwood and Outdoor Adventure Camp at Prairieview Education Center in Crystal Lake provide youth, ages 8 to 11, nonstop explorations. At Glacial Park campers will canoe, explore habitats, take part in a conservation work project, play games and decorate T-shirts. At Prairieview, campers will enjoy hiking adventures, outdoor challenges, fishing, canoeing, and nature crafts.
• STEEM Camp at Glacial Park allows campers ages 10-12 to explore STEEM (Science, Technology, Environment, Engineering, and Math) topics, using the natural Environment as the organizing theme. Along with all the traditional day camp activities such as games, crafts, hikes and a cookout, campers spend time with hands-on activities that build skills, foster critical thinking and pique their curiosity about how the natural world works.
• Time Travelers Camp at Glacial Park where youth ages 10-12 experience a different era of history each day including Native American Life, Pioneer Life, and as French Explorers canoeing Nippersink Creek.
• Wild Things Camp (with overnight) at Glacial Park where youth ages 12-15 experience fun and adventure, including an overnight campout! Three days filled with exploration, biking, hiking, kayaking, sleeping in tents, and sitting by the campfire.
• Hunter Safety Camp at Prairieview Education Center and Glacial Park will teach aspiring young hunters ages 9 to 17 all the requirements of the Illinois hunter safety course, including hunter responsibility and ethics, firearms and ammunition, firearm safety in the home, state regulations and more.
• Police Camp at Prairieview Education Center will teach campers ages 10-15 what it is like to be a conservation police officer! Conservation officers not only protect people, they also protect our conservation areas and the plants and animals that call the conservation area their home.
• Outdoor Summer Camps will follow current CDC guidelines and protocols. All participants are required to wear a face covering. Hand washing will be monitored and sanitizer stations will be available. Children will participate in camp activities in small groups, social distanced with additional staff supervision.

Registration also accepted by mail-in and drop-off at Prairieview Education Center, 2112 Behan Road in Crystal Lake, or drop-off only at Lost Valley Visitor Center, Route 31 and Harts Road in Ringwood.
McHenry County Conservation District currently owns and protects 25,600 acres of open space which provides wildlife habitat preservation, educational opportunities and recreational amenities for the citizens of McHenry County to enjoy.
