Friends of MCC Foundation to host Listening for a Cause event Sept. 27

The Friends of MCC Foundation will host "Listening for a Cause" fundraiser at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27, at the Listening Room at the Dole Mansion, 401 Country Club Road in Crystal Lake. Doors open at 6:45 p.m.

The headliner band is the Good Things, a festive and lively Midwest rock band who will take you on a journey through American rock n' roll from the 1970s through today.

With a great selection of originals and hits from legendary rock artists, Good Things guarantees a fun, dynamic, and delicious rock music experience.

Opening for the Good Things will be McHenry County favorite, The Double Standard, serving up a fine variety of tunes, and are described as a bold, new flavor of funk and rock.

Hosted by the Friends of McHenry County College Foundation, this is the fifth in a series of Listening for a Cause concerts that specifically support the MCC Student Success Fund.

This important fund provides students with immediate financial support for expenses related to an unexpected unique emergency that places their continued education at risk.

The Student Success Fund is a program that is sustained by continual contributions from students, alumni, parents, faculty, staff and friends of the College.

Last year, 27 students benefitted from more than $10,000 of support to continue their educational journey even in the midst of some unforeseen obstacles.

Some attendees from previous Listening for a Cause events praised the music and the venue, including Marianne Devenny of Woodstock, who said, "We were just going to come for a half-hour, but stayed for several hours because the music was so great and the atmosphere was so fun."

"What great music and a great event space for a great cause," said Suzanne Hoban, executive director of Family Health Partnership Clinic. "It's a perfect way to spend a Friday evening."

Pat Kallaus of Crystal Lake agreed, saying the bands were energizing.

"We attended Listening for a Cause in June (last year). We enjoyed the band, Player Three and then the Belvederes took the stage - a dynamic young group of extremely talented musicians with a ridiculous amount of soul. I instantly had happy feet and couldn't stop dancing."

Admission is free, and cash bar and snacks are available. Donations are welcome to benefit the Student Success Fund at MCC.

Listening for a Cause is sponsored by Chris's Auto Repair and Specialty Shop.
