Nationwide contest delivers win for Crystal Lake small business owner

Vanessa Baker's business, Fast Forward Marketing in Crystal Lake, was the grand prize winner of Fifth Third Bank's "What Drives You" contest.

As a result, not only was the company's logo featured on the No. 17 Fifth Third Ford Mustang at the Quaker State 400, but Vanessa and her family were treated to a VIP race experience at the event.

"I brought my husband and two daughters, and I also brought a picture of my grandfather, Lester. He loved NASCAR. I'm sure he was smiling down." Vanessa explains. "When the 'What Drives You' opportunity came up, I immediately thought of sharing the experience with him."

The VIP treatment the Bakers enjoyed included meeting driver Ricky Stenhouse Jr., relaxing in the Fifth Third Bank hospitality area and watching the race from a great vantage point.

"It really was the opportunity of a lifetime" Vanessa said.

Fast Forward Marketing provides online marketing, advertising and promotional services for small businesses. Vanessa founded the company in 2012 and this year was recognized by Digital Megaphone as among the top women in digital marketing.

Vanessa says her family and her community drive her. "Small business owners help the community by providing jobs, providing time, treasure and talent to nonprofits serving our community and serving in local leadership positions," she said on her application for the "What Drives You" contest. "It is deeply gratifying to help over 125 small business owners succeed."
