Local farmer discusses benefits of conservation farming in McHenry County

Local farmer John Bartman will tell the story of how conservation practices on his land have been good for his farm and good for the earth. The presentation will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 12, in the Luecht Conference Center at McHenry County College, 8900 Route 14 in Crystal Lake. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and light refreshments will be served.

The event is free and open to the public.

Bartman is a fifth-generation farmer from Marengo. He has been using conservation farming practices, such as cover cropping, no-till and biosolid application for several years, and will share the results.

He also will reflect on the current state of farming and will discuss ways to support the local farming community.

The presentation will be one hour, followed by questions and comments from the audience.

This event is being hosted by John Bartman with support from The Land Conservancy of McHenry County and McHenry County College Department of Horticulture.
