Bloomingdale Township funds mental health, developmental disabilities, substance abuse services

The Bloomingdale Township Mental Health Board recently awarded more than $500,000 in funding to local organizations serving township residents in the areas of mental health, developmental disabilities and substance abuse.

Supervisor Michael D. Hovde Jr. stated "Bloomingdale Township is addressing the important issues of mental health, substance abuse and developmental disabilities with this funding. I am proud to lead the first township in DuPage County to form a mental health board in response to resident concerns and with voter support."

Bloomingdale Township has over 111,000 residents as of the 2010 census, and in addition to Mental Health Services, the township provides services to senior citizens, hosts a food pantry, Meals on Wheels, operates a youth counseling service, and provides general and emergency assistance to citizens of the township.

Funding was provided to Access Community Health Network/Martin T. Russo Family Health Center, Amita Health Adventist Medical Center, Bloomingdale Police Department, Glendale Heights Police Department, Bloomingdale Township Youth Services Bureau, Easterseals DuPage & Fox Valley, LTM Foundation, Marklund Children's Home, NAMI of DuPage County, Ray Graham Association for People With Disabilities, Trinity Lutheran Adult Day Services, Roselle Police Department, and YWCA Metropolitan Chicago.

The township is comprised of communities including the entire village of Bloomingdale and portions of the villages of Addison, Carol Stream, Glendale Heights, Hanover Park, Itasca, and Roselle.

Unincorporated areas of the township include the areas of Medinah, Mallard Lake Estates, Nordic Park, Itasca Ranchettes, Glen Ellyn Countryside, Keeneyville, Lombard, and a small portion of Schaumburg.
