Join Audubon in search for eagles this weekend

Celebrate the return of eagles to the Fox River Valley with Hackmatack National Wildlife Refuge Saturday, Jan. 20.

Representatives from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Friends of Hackmatack National Wildlife Refuge, Illinois Department of Natural Resources, and McHenry County Audubon will be on hand for "In Search of Eagles" from 8 to 10 a.m. at locations along the Fox River and at Geneva Lake to help search for eagles and other birds using area waterways.

Volunteers and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service staff will be sharing views through spotting scopes and binoculars and helping novices identify the birds they see at the McHenry Dam, the Algonquin Dam, and the Carpenter Dam in Illinois and at Fontana Beach on Geneva Lake in Wisconsin.

Maps to all locations are posted at tinyurl.com/InSearchofEagles.

Call Cindy Skrukrud, Friends of Hackmatack National Wildlife Refuge, at (312) 251-1680, ext. 1015 with any questions.
