Sept. 17: Catch the Capitol Steps' political satire at CLC's James Lumber Center

The well-known political satire group the Capitol Steps returns to the James Lumber Center for the Performing Arts at the College of Lake County at 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17 to kick off the 21st Professional Touring Series.

Begun in 1981 as a group of Senate staffers who set out to satirize their employers, the Capitol Steps have elevated political satire to an art form. Before "The Daily Show," "Full Frontal" and "The Colbert Report," this Washington, D.C.-based comedy troupe entertained audiences with bipartisan lampooning. The Capitol Steps dig into the news of the day and create song parodies and skits that convey their special brand of satirical humor, tackling all sides of the political spectrum.

Since forming, the Capitol Steps have recorded more than 30 albums, including their latest, "Orange Is the New Barack." They've been featured on NBC, CBS, ABC and PBS, and can be heard twice a year on National Public Radio stations nationwide during their "Politics Takes a Holiday" radio specials. Performer website: www.capsteps.com.
