American Heart Association seeking nominations for Lifestyle Change awards

The American Heart Association and Interactive Health are seeking nominations for this year's Healthy for Good Lifestyle Change award. The award recognizes individuals who have made positive changes to improve the quality of their life and health.

Nominations for the Lifestyle Change award can be made by friends, relatives and co-workers, and individuals can nominate themselves. Nomination forms are due by Tuesday, Sept. 5. The forms can be found at www.MetroChicagoHeartWalk.org.

The Lifestyle Change awards will be presented at this year's American Heart Association Metro Chicago Heart Walks. More than 20,000 people are expected to turn out for this year's walks, which will be held in Chicago on Friday, Sept. 22, Oakbrook on Saturday, Sept. 23, and Northfield on Sunday, Sept. 24.

The walks raise money for research and education programs that support the American Heart Association's mission of building healthier lives, free of cardiovascular disease and stroke.

The funds raised in the Heart Walk will support projects like:

• Putting up-to-the-minute research into doctors' hands so they can better prevent and treat heart disease among patients.

• Groundbreaking pediatric heart and stroke research. About 36,000 babies are born with heart defects each year - research is the key to saving babies' lives.

• Getting lifesaving information to those who need it most - information that can save a life, like how to eat better, how to recognize the warning signs of heart attack, and how to talk to a doctor about critical health choices.

The Metro Chicago Heart Walks will raise more than $3 million toward lifesaving American Heart Association programs in Chicago and across the country.
