April 3: Minneapolis Guitar Quartet concert at CLC to include Prince tribute

The Minneapolis Guitar Quartet, called "one of the major guitar ensembles in the world" by Soundboard Magazine, will perform at 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 3 in the James Lumber Center for the Performing Arts Mainstage Theatre at the College of Lake County.

As one of the few guitar ensembles performing the majority of its repertoire from memory, the foursome-Joseph Hagedorn, Maja Radovanlija, Ben Kunkel and Wade Oden-moves with ease through original works for guitar quartet to its own brilliant arrangements, and from major commissions to unexpected collaborations. At CLC, the quartet will perform music by Joaquin Rodrigo, Astor Piazzolla, Alberto Ginastera, Hiromi Uehara, Maria Kalaniemi and J.S. Bach, guiding listeners through a musical tour of Argentina, Spain and Finland, with a special tribute to Minneapolis icon Prince.

"More than a guitar quartet, more than superb musicians and more than a great chamber group," said composer/performer Daniel Bernard Roumain. "They are ambassadors of sound, style and substance."

The MGQ has performed in recital throughout major U.S. cities and at Princeton University, the National Arts Center (Mexico City), Round Top International Guitar Festival and the Guitar Foundation of America Festival. They have played with the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, Minnesota Orchestra and the Austin and Columbus symphonies. In March 2015, the quartet performed at the Guitar Art Festival in Belgrade, Serbia, and will perform in the Summer Guitar Art Festival in Herceg Novi, Montenegro in 2016.
