Learn about small-scale composting Jan. 6
Rich Tobiasz from the McHenry County Master Gardeners will talk about home composting for the small household or on a small scale at the monthly meeting of the McHenry County Green Drinks from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 6, at Duke's Alehouse & Kitchen, upstairs, 110 N. Main St. in Crystal Lake.
Tobiasz will talk about composting as one of the best methods of recycling spent plant material including vegetable trimmings. And you do not need a large yard to turn these materials into a very usable soil amendment that also provides fertility in the organic garden. Apartment, town home or small city lot: No problem. He will discuss small-scale composting and vermicomposting.
Besides being the Spring Grove Fire Chief, he is a Master Gardener, composter, preserver, educator and storyteller. He recently completed his master's degree in crop sciences from the University of Illinois where he focused on organic practices and procedures.
