2015-16 STEM Speaker Series at CLC

Anyone interested in science and technology is invited to come to the College of Lake County's STEM Speaker Series, where content experts will provide a fresh perspective on important STEM-related subjects.

The series provides an opportunity for teachers and students of all ages to learn more about potential careers in STEM fields. Online registration is recommended.

STEM stands for "Science, Technology, Engineering and Math."

• STEM Day for Girls: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Feb. 27. A day designed to motivate girls interested in STEM careers to become innovative and creative thinkers. Students will be introduced to a variety of topics through a series of hands-on activities and presentations. Parents will be provided with details on scholarships, financial aid and career pathways. This free event is for girls in grades 7-12. Location: Grayslake Campus Lower Level C Wing.

• Mission Critical - Preventing Antibiotic Resistance: 6 p.m. March 8. The use and misuse of antimicrobial drugs accelerate the emergence of drug resistant strains. According to the World Health Organization, new resistance mechanisms emerge and spread globally, threatening the ability to treat common infectious diseases. Learn about the causes and effects of antibiotic resistance and what can be done to help. Location: C Wing Auditorium, Room C005.

• NanoNight - Nanotechnology Family Festival: April 7 (evening hours to be announced). Bring the family to the festival and experience nanoscale science and engineering applications with hands-on activities. Explore the impact of nanoscale science on the technology of today and potential for future innovation. Location: CLC Southlake Campus, 1120 S. Milwaukee Ave., Vernon Hills.

• Robotics Festival: (date and location to be announced). An evening of hands-on activities and exhibits in May. Guests discover robotics projects they can build at home, try out some labs and explore career pathways. Local robotics teams will showcase their projects.
