Believe Project: $100 to help diabetic son keep up with the bills

Today's winner of a $100 bill through the Believe Project is Joan Bishop of Grayslake.

Here is an excerpt of her pitch:

"My son is a Type 1 diabetic. His wife left him two years ago with five children, although she tries to help. He had major surgery on his foot in July and hasn't been able to work so is on disability. He hasn't been able to pay his health insurance in three months so is in danger of losing it. He needs it for medicine and doctor and hospital bills. I am on a fixed income and living on Social Security, so I can only try to help. The $100 will help."

• The Believe Project is awarding $100 each day in December to a different person with a good idea for how to use $100 to do a good deed for someone else.
