Elgin notches first win of season
Desmond Sanders and Lavion Baldwin scored 14 points each Saturday night to lead Elgin to a 72-36 win over Christian Liberty on the final day of the Bison Invite boys basketball tournament at Buffalo Grove.
The Maroons (1-3) led 38-14 by halftime and never looked back.
“Our intensity got better during the tournament,” said Elgin coach Mike Sitter. “We have lots of guys without varsity experience and have to get used to the speed of the game.
“Today, they came off the court and said challenge accepted for the rest of the year.”
Ryan Sitter and Kiko Mari added 11 points each for the Maroons but the play of sophomores Desmond Douglas and Baldwin drew praise from Mike Sitter.
“Sophomores Desmond Douglas and Lavion Baldwin got a lot of minutes,” he said. “If they’re going to play well, then we’re going to play well. If they give us production, then we’re going to be pretty good.”
