Maggie Powers scored 12 points and Alisha Panthier had 10 Wednesday as the Elgin girls basketball team rolled to a 65-30 win over Woodlands Academy in the opening round of the Elgin Academy Thanksgiving Tournament.
The Maroons (1-1) will play in the semifinals at 7:30 p.m. today.
Anna Eckholm added 8 points for Elgin, which had 12 players score at least 2 points. Elgin led 30-17 at halftime then outscored Woodlands 35-13 in the second half.
Burlington Central 69, Larkin 46: Sam Pryor had 16 points while Kayla Ross and Becca Gerke added 13 each to lead the Rockets (1-0) to a win at their own Thanksgiving tournament. Aly DeTamble added 12 points for Burlington Central, which made 10 3-pointers. Victoria Patterson had 14 points for Larkin (0-1), while Quixmia Washington added 12 and Alyssa McGhee 9.
Cary-Grove 40, Elk Grove 33: Katie Barker scored 19 points to lead the Trojans (2-0) in the opening round of the Lake Zurich Turkey Thriller. Candace Cunningham added 6 points for Cary-Grove, which led 29-13 at halftime. The Trojans take on defending Class 4A state runner-up and No. 2 ranked Rolling Meadows tonight.
Hinckley-Big Rock 46, Westminster Christian 35: The Warriors (2-1) suffered their first loss, being outscored 27-12 in the second half of this Somonauk Tournament game. Maddie Versluys had 20 points and 10 rebounds for Westminster. Claire Speweik added 7 points.
Palatine 59, Jacobs 43: Jacobs (1-1) fell behind 35-16 at halftime and couldn’t recover in this loss at the Dundee-Crown Tournament. Glenita Williams led the Golden Eagles with 9 points.
