Nov. 15-Dec. 15: New CLC art exhibit by Joel Sheesley

An exhibit of 15 paintings called Joel Sheesley: Evidence on the Pavement will be on display in the College of Lake County Robert T. Wright Community Gallery of Art from Nov. 15 to Dec. 15. An opening reception, which is free and open to the public, will be held from 7-9 p.m. on Nov. 15 in the gallery.

The Wheaton-based artist earned a B.F.A. in painting and drawing from Syracuse University School of Art and an M.F.A. from the University of Denver School of Art in painting and printmaking. An art teacher at Wheaton College, his work has been exhibited regularly in Chicago, including at the Chicago Cultural Center in 2010, and in other cities across the country. In 2008, his painting was the subject of a major retrospective exhibition at the Brauer Museum of Art at Valparaiso University in Indiana. He received an Illinois Arts Council Fellowship in 2002.

“Joel Sheesley's current series of large format paintings uses his blacktop driveway with its puddles as a stage for his narratives,” said Steven Jones, art gallery curator. “He is a superb craftsman and he incorporates figures and objects as symbols and references.”

The Robert T. Wright Community Gallery of Art on the Grayslake Campus is a project of the College of Lake County Foundation and is located at 19351 W. Washington St. Established by the College of Lake County Foundation in 1981, the gallery is committed to displaying the works of Illinois artists and increasing the visibility of nationally known artists in Lake County.
