2013 Chicago Hunter Derby benefits local charities

Antioch, IL – July 24, 2013 –With the generous sponsorship of Canadian Pacific, Abba Vet Supply, Barrington Saddlery and others, Chicago Equestrians for a Cause is able to present “A Day in the Country” featuring the $50,000 USHJA International Hunter Derby and the $5,000 National Hunter Derby, September 7-8, 2013 at Annali Farm in Antioch.

The proceeds for the event will benefit three charities this year; Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago, The United States Hunter Jumper Association Foundation, and the University of Chicago Cancer Research Foundation.

For Saturday, September 7th, general seating is available along with a lunch by Chef Paul, to take in the $5,000 National Derby, presented by ABBA Vet Supply, and the first round of the $50,000 International Derby, sponsored by Canadian Pacific. The National Derby will begin at 10 a.m., lunch served at noon, and the International Derby will start at approximately 2 p.m.

In lieu of tickets, a suggested donation of $25 will be accepted at the door to benefit the three charities.

The USHJA International Hunter Derby final round on Sunday, Sept. 8, offers VIP tickets only. Spectators may enjoy “A Day in the Country” which includes bar, appetizers and a luncheon by Chef Paul catering in the ticket price. Angel's Envy Bourbon will have a mixologist and bar, mixing mint juleps and bourbon punch during the luncheon.

Sunday's schedule:

10:30 a.m. Gates open and ticket holders welcome

11 a.m. International Derby course walk, brunch and bar open, children's horseless derby

Noon Calcutta

1 p.m. First horse on course

3:30 p.m. Awards ceremony (all times are TENTATIVE)

Prices for VIP tables on Sunday:

$10,000 - Grand Champion Table (Front row, center) VIP parking

$5,000 - Champion table (front row)

$2,500 - Blue ribbon table

$250 - individual seat

$75 - children's seating

Both the National and International Derbies will feature obstacles that are reminiscent of the hunt field, such as natural post and rail, stone wall, white board fence or gate, coop, aiken, hedge, oxer, brush, logs and natural foliage.

The International Hunter Derby Program was created to bring show hunters to the international level, to increase spectator interest, media and sponsorship interest, and to bring tradition and basic riding principles back to the sport of showing hunters.

Spectators will enjoy watching some of the top riders and horses in the country compete in the event over one of the most beautiful and detailed courses ever built. Horses will be judged by some of the top judges in the sport including the legendary George H. Morris, Geoff Teal, Steve Wall and Scott Williamson. Topped off with fabulous food and shopping, it is an event you won't want to miss.
