Cary-Grove’s Stanley throws no-hitter
Junior Lauren Stanley had her best outing since taking over the circle for injured senior Lindsay Efflandt, throwing a no-hitter Friday as Cary-Grove’s softball team defeated Dundee-Crown 1-0 in a Fox Valley Conference Valley Division game at Cary-Grove.
Stanley (7-3) struck out 7 and walked 1 as the Trojans (18-3, 9-2) remained in a first-place tie in the Valley with McHenry and Prairie Ridge. Cary-Grove plays at PR Monday.
The Trojans scored the only run of Friday’s game in the bottom of the first inning. Sophomore Sarah Purpura led off with a single, went to second on an error on Amy Clemment’s grounder and third on a passed ball before scoring on Jamie Deering’s sacrifice fly.
Purpura’s hit was Cary-Grove’s only hit of the game off Dundee-Crown’s Amanda Eissler, who struck out 4 and walked 1 for the Chargers (3-14, 0-9).
St. Edward 15, Guerin 0: Lindsay Zdroik and Angela Zenteno (3-6) combined on a 2-hitter for the Green Wave in the Suburban Christian Blue. Ashley Gradisher (3-for-5, 3 RS), Zenteno (3-for-4, 3 RBI), Jasmine Deleon (2-for-3, 2 RBI), Kelly Theriault (2-for-4, 2B), Julie Larson (2-for-3, 3 RBI) and Zdroik (2-for-5, RBI) led the 18-hit attack for St. Edward (10-12, 5-7).
Hampshire 2, Woodstock North 1: Sara Finn was 3-for-4 with 2 stolen bases and Jennifer Hurst pitched a 5-hitter with 7 strikeouts as the Whip-Purs (9-16, 4-6) won the FVC Fox.
Burlington Central 14, Sycamore 3: Brooke Gaylord returned from injury to go 2-for-3 with a double, triple and 4 RBI as the Rockets ran their winning streak to 19 with this nonconference win. Bekah Harnish (HR), Courtni Neubauer (2-for-3) and Lauren King (2-for-3) led the offense for Central (22-1), which will play a doubleheader today at Class 4A power Moline. Emily Kisch picked up the win Friday, allowing 4 hits with 9 strikeouts and 1 walk.
McHenry 12, Jacobs 2: Alyssa Lach had a 2-run home run for Jacobs in this FVC Valley loss. Kelsey Peters took the loss for the Golden Eagles (12-12, 4-7).
