Endorsements: Ollayos, Jones, Causey, Daley for ECC board
Elgin Community College enjoys a strong reputation and has won accolades for its efforts to work with both its feeder districts to ensure students are college ready when they graduate high school and other colleges to ensure that ECC’s credits are transferable. Clare Ollayos, who has served three 6-year terms, has been a part of that effort. Ollayos, who also has been vice president of the Illinois Community College Trustees Association and is now on the national board, is an excellent candidate for re-election. For the other two 6-year seats, recent appointee Rise Jones, who is director of the Hamilton Wings nonprofit, is worth keeping, as is Angela Causey, who works as a family self-sufficiency coordinator for Neighborhood Housing Services. Elgin Mental Health Center psychologist Elias Palacios also is running.
For the lone 4-year term, voters couldn’t go wrong. Nadia Daley, an ECC graduate who manages an international travel company and has worked in a variety of volunteer efforts in the Fox Valley, is endorsed over Art Sauceda, a CPA who is a board member and former president of Centro de Informacion, a social service agency for Latinos. There are no bad choices here, but the best are Ollayos, Jones and Causey for the 6-year term and Daley for the 4-year.
