Scouting MSL boys swimming
Mid-Suburban League swimming preview
When: 1 p.m. today
Where: Barrington
Outlook: There’s no doubt that Barrington is superbly positioned to win the conference meet. In addition to having all three relays with the top seed standout senior individuals such as Kyle Ujiye and Jack Strauss, the Broncos also boast superior depth. In all the individual events except the 100 fly, both Barrington entrants will be seeded in the fastest heat. Strauss has the top seed in the 100 free, Sebastian Piekarski has the top seed in the 50 free and Ujiye has the top seed in the 50 fly. But there are plenty more Broncos with chances to score big points, such as Chris Vega (200 IM, 100 free), Sean Rodney (200 free, 500 free), Sam Miseyka (50 free, 100 breast), Nathan Bosse and Brandon Baranowski (100 back) and Connor Kobida (200 IM, 100 breast).
Defending champ Conant has senior standout Jonathon Burke as the top seed in the 200 and 500 freestyles, with Alex Shozda tops in the 100 backstroke and second in the 100 free, and Martin Pozniak second in the 200 IM and third in the 100 fly. Buffalo Grove senior Matt Schulstad has the top seed in a tightly bunched 200 IM, and Hoffman Estates’ Sang Han is tops in the 100 breaststroke.
Something for everyone: Every Mid-Suburban League team will be represented in the fastest heats. Hoffman Estates senior Nick Jessee is in the 200 and 100 freestyles; Fremd will feature seniors Dennis Kostidis (200 IM, 100 fly) and Andrew King (100 free, 50 free) along with Michael Chemello (200 free) and Nick Pappas (500 free); Palatine has Jordan Kalina and Marcus Carter-Buckmann in the 500 free; Elk Grove has Colin Williams in the 100 fly and Krystian Szczepaniak in the 100 breast; Wheeling has Jake Noel in the 200 IM and 100 back and Bryce Maczko in the 50 free; Hersey has Jamey Hill in the 200 free and Samuel Kim in the 100 fly; Rolling Meadows has Jake Barson in the breaststroke, and Prospect has Nathanael Ginnodo in the breaststroke.
