Boys soccer/Fox Valley roundup
The Elgin boys soccer team knocked off Nazareth 5-1 Saturday to win the championship at the St. Patrick tournament.
Tournament MVP Tony Escamilla scored 2 goals in the win for the Maroons, while all-tournament selection Oscar Rodriguez had a hat trick. Flavio James made 7 saves in goal for Elgin, which also placed Joey Chavez, Juan Flores and Salvador Rodriguez on the all-tournament team.
“We’re pleased,” said Elgin coach Dave Borg. “We didn’t want to play down to them but we’ve had trouble with teams who have less talent.”
The Maroons are now 4-1-1 on the season.
Huntley wins Wauconda Invite: Eddie Gonzalez, Lucas Baker and Jakob Rye scored goals as Huntley beat Zion-Benton 3-1 to win the Wauconda Invite and stay undefeated on the season at 5-0. Auston Emery made 3 saves in goal for the Red Raiders.
WW South 2, CL South 1: Michael Conley scored for the Gators in this loss at the Barrington tournament. Gus Alvarez made 2 saves in goal for Crystal Lake South (2-4), which placed Sam Murdock and Charlie Ruff on the all-tournament team.
Rockford East 1, St. Edward 0: John Gotheridge had 6 saves in goal for St. Edward (2-3) in this nonconference loss.
Elgin Academy 2, Kirkland Hiawatha 1: Brandon Perez scored both goals for the Hilltoppers in this nonconference win. Liam Phalan had 6 saves in goal for Elgin Academy.
Dundee-Crown 3, Bartlett 0: Ben Stone, Luis Washington and Salvador Rodriguez scored goals and Christian Martinez had 3 saves in goal to lead the Chargers to a nonconference win.
Keith School 4, Westminster Christian 0: Sam Carani made 14 saves in goal for Westminster in this nonconference setback.
