Carmel adds to good start

Carmel Catholic’s girls golf team continues to shoot solid scores.

The Corsairs carded a season-best 173 to edge visiting Deerfield (178) at Countryside Golf Course in Mundelein Wednesday.

Carmel senior Isabella Bagshaw shared medalist honors with Deerfield’s Lauren Kelsey, as both players shot a 40. Other standouts for the Corsairs were freshman Alexa Amato (44), senior Rachel Fraher (43) and seniors Taylor Smith (460 and Caroline Thompson (46).

Carmel is off to a 3-1 start.

“We have a lot of depth,” Corsairs coach Jill Franz said. “It really comes down to the last scorer, and it truly is a team effort. It was a really nice comeback and a great win after a tough loss to Stevenson (176-202 Tuesday).

Stevenson d. Warren: At Cranes Landing, Illinois-bound Stephanie Miller fired a 36 to lead the Patriots (183) past the visiting Blue Devils (209).

Stevenson also got a 46 from Nikki Marquardt.

Junior Gabby Cordova led Warren with a 45.

Libertyville d. Grant: At Antioch Golf Club, Camilla Ou’s 41 led the Wildcats (186) to victory over the host Bulldogs (282).

Paige Webb and Jessica Lovinger shot 47 and 48, respectively, and Izzy Alesna had a 50 for Libertyville (2-0).

Mundelein d. Lake Zurich: At Village Green, Courteney Fabbri fired an even-par 35, as the Mustangs (166) won easily.

Hannah Thompson and Holly Gotlund each had a 42 for Mundelein.

Lake Zurich (197) was led by Megan Malcolm’s 46.

Lake Forest d. Vernon Hills: At Vernon Hills Golf Course, Emily Young carded a 42 for the victorious Scouts (178).

Vernon Hills (206) got a 45 from Kari Lee.
