Plaza makes first-team All-N4C for Harper

Harper’s baseball program landed three players on the North Central Community College All-Conference team.

Sophomore pitcher Scott Plaza (Prospect) earned first-team honors.

Freshman infielder Nick Spagnola (Dundee-Crown) and sophomore catcher Connor McHugh (Schaumburg) were named to the second team.

Plaza, Spagnola, McHugh and Dan Duran also gained All-Region honors. Plaza and Duran, a sophomore first baseman, made the first team. The other Hawks were named to the second team.

Ÿ A pair of Harper sophomore pitchers have made choice to attend four-year schools. Ryan Busse (Hersey) and Dan Hoppel (Rolling Meadows) have committed to NCAA Division III member Edgewood College in Madison, Wis. The Eagles are members of the Northern Athletic Conference. Despite the squad’s 17-23 overall record this spring, Edgewood fared much better within the conference, finishing with a 13-9 mark and earning the Eagles a fifth-place fnish.

Ÿ Scott Plaza, Dan Duran, Connor McHugh and pitcher Josh Daniels (Elk Grove) have been selected to play in the Region IV Unsigned Sophomore Showcase on Tuesday. The game is hosted by Benedictine University in Lisle. The doubleheader format showcases the best unsigend junior college players within all levels of Region IV.

The first game is scheduled for a 5 p.m. start. The second game will being immediately following the conclusion of game one. A rain date has been set for Wednesday, May 23; if that date is sued, the first pitch will be thrown at 10 a.m.
