‘Mad for Mod’ fashion show teams Harper, Tricoci

Harper College fashion students are teaming with students from Tricoci University and Egg Harbor Restaurants for their annual fashion show, “Mad for Mod,” featuring funky 1960s inspired fashions.

This year’s show is themed.

For the first time, 50 students from Tricoci University will assist Harper students prepping and primping professional models before they walk the runway. The annual professional-caliber show showcases students’ original work and designs.

“We’re excited to have our students and Harper students work together to design creative and cohesive looks for the show,” said Jen McGann, director of cosmetology and nail technology at Tricoci University.

“This is an ideal partnership between Tricoci University and Harper, and a wonderful learning opportunity for all of the students.”

Also at the show, the winner of the Egg Harbor apron design contest will be unveiled. Over the past semester, aprons designed by Harper fashion students have been on display at local Egg Harbor restaurants, with customers voting for their favorite design.

The winning artist will be hired by Egg Harbor to create a prototype of the winning apron, which will then be tested in the restaurants.

“The apron design contest has been a great experience for our servers and our customers,” said Michael J. Farrell, owner of Egg Harbor. “I applaud Harper for giving students an opportunity to work outside the classroom and exposing them to real world challenges.”

Showtime for “Mad for Mod” is 7 p.m. Friday, May 18, in the Wojcik Conference Center on Harper’s main campus, 1200 W. Algonquin Road in Palatine. Tickets are $30 and include a reception featuring hors d’oeuvres, a silent auction, a gift bag and a cash bar. Proceeds fund scholarships for Harper fashion students.
