Perfect MSL finish for Conant

Conant’s softball team wrapped up its first undefeated season in Mid-Suburban League divisional play with a 7-1 victory over visiting Hoffman Estates.

The last MSL team to go undefeated in divisional play was Barrington in 2003 (also 16-0).

MSL West champ Conant (28-2, 16-0) was led on offense by senior Kim Jacobson (3-for-4, 3 RBI), who belted a home run, junior Miranda Cavin (2-for-4, 2 RBI) and senior Shannon O’Connor (2-for-3, 1 run).

O’Connor (3-0) also notched the win on the Cougars’ Senior Day by striking out two and allowing 5 hits in five innings. Senior Briana Cavin struck out four in the final two innings.

Junior Heather Bartoszewski had a double for the Hawks (4-23-1, 1-15).

Elk Grove 3, Prospect 0: Senior Becca Walz had a two-out, 2-run single in the bottom of the first scoring Devan Parkison and pinch runner Elisa Payne and Parkison scored on a wild pitch in the fifth for Elk Grove’s runs.

Parkison and Megan Keegan both singled before Walz’ game-winning RBI.

Senior Dani Goranson (20-6) threw a 4-hitter with 9 strikeouts and 1 walk for MSL East champ Elk Grove (25-7, 14-2).

Sophomore Michelle Korf (2-5) took the loss for Prospect (10-24, 6-10)

Fremd 6, Schaumburg 4: Fremd senior second baseman Megan Hubbard (2-for-4, 2 runs, 2 runs, 1 stolen base) set a school record when she hit her 17th career homer over the left-center field fence with one out in the fifth inning.

The previous mark of 16 was set by Lauren Zaworski.

Sara Untiedt (2-for-3, 1 run) and Kristie Salerno (2-for-3, 2 runs, 2 stolen bases) were the other multiple hitters for Fremd (25-7, 12-4).

Senior Rachel Doering (13-4) earned the win with 6 strikeouts and no walks.

Senior Rene Kakareka (8-5), who took the loss, had an RBI double for Schaumburg (15-13, 8-8). Teammate Sarah May was 2-for-3, including a 2-run homer.

Barrington 8, Palatine 3: Visiting Barrington (27-7, 11-5) received a 5-hitter from junior Cassidy Kraimer (16-6), who struck out eight.

Ally McLaughlin (4-for-5, 1 run, 1 stolen base), Kelsey Kazmier (2-for-5, 2 runs), Tess Bolger (2-for-4) and Maggie O’Hara (2-for-4, double) were top hitters for the Fillies while Lauren Logan (1-for-2), pitcher Megan Hedstrom (1-for-3, home run) and Kaileigh Moertl (2-for-3) led Palatine (14-19, 6-10)

Rolling Meadows 3, Buffalo Grove 2 (10 inn.): A two-out single to left field by Chloe Prodanovic drove home Lane Winkler from third base with the winning run in the bottom of the tenth inning.

Winkler had singled earlier in the inning and there were runners on second and third when Prodanovic got the clutch hit to make Sara Brunlieb (13-7) the winner.

Brunlieb went all 10 innings, allowing 8 hits and striking out nine.

Julia Camardo went the first 9 innings for BG (9-22, 5-11), striking out 10. Katie Conley threw the final inning for the Bison, who were led on offense by freshman Caitlin Catino (4-for-5, RBI).

The victory gave Meadows (16-15, 7-9) second place in the MSL East.

Junior Sam Anderson tripled for Meadows and went 3-for-4 while teammate Natalie Cannizzo was 2-for-4.

Leyden 8, Addison Trail 2: Leyden (25-7, 10-2) clinched at least a share of the West Suburban Gold Conference title.
