It’s a win-win for Mundelein
Mundelein’s baseball team got more than a 10-2 win over host Fremd on Saturday.
The Mustangs also got an inning in a JV game from Iowa-recruit Ryan Borucki.
The hard-throwing lefty has not thrown in a varsity game since early in the season. While he has continued playing first base and hitting, Borucki had not been pitching due to an arm injury.
He just recently started throwing on the side.
“Sixteen (major-league) scouts were there (for the JV game),” said Mundelein assistant coach Jeff Sweno, adding that Borucki’s velocity was good.
In the varsity game, Mundelein got a 3-for-3 effort, which included a double, from Chris Maranto in improving to 25-4. Winning pitcher Bryan Wiener pitched into the seventh, striking out three, and helped himself at the plate by going 2-for-3 with a double. Jordan Bregenzer doubled as well for the Mustangs.
Vernon Hills 13, Wheeling 0: Eric Lang, Chris Marras, Tyler Feece, Steve Nelson, Ethan McGrew and Pat Crowley each had 2 hits apiece to help Vernon Hills improve to 23-6. Crowley also was the winning pitcher.
Libertyville splits:
Libertyville split its nonconference doubleheader with Burlington Central on Saturday, but the Wildcats’ Matt Vogt shined in both games.
Libertyville lost its first game to Burlington Central 9-4 but rebounded to win the second game, 12-2. Vogt had 2 hits in the first game and 2 hits, including a home run, in the second game. Alex Gough had 3 hits in the win for Libertyville while Kevin Calamari and Alec Semersky added 2 hits apiece. In the first game, Michael Coutre also had 2 hits for the Wildcats.
