Elk Grove stuns Prospect, Landwehr

A rough two weeks knocked Elk Grove out of the Mid-Suburban East baseball race.

But the Grenadiers produced a stunning knockout Tuesday afternoon at home that had a major impact on the teams vying for a division title.

Peter Kinsella and Luc Dimaso homered as the Grenadiers scored all of their runs in the first 3 innings in a 7-3 victory over Prospect and Illinois State-bound ace Jack Landwehr. Dan Guido provided the dominant pitching in the victory with 12 strikeouts and 1 walk in 6 innings.

Kinsella went 3-for-4 and Patrick O’Malley went 3-for-3 as Elk Grove (15-13, 6-7) dropped Prospect (12-15, 9-4) into a tie for first in the East with Hersey (20-6, 9-4), which beat Rolling Meadows 5-2. Landwehr (5-3) came into the game with a 0.26 ERA and had allowed only 5 total runs in 54 innings.

But Kinsella’s RBI single in the first gave the Grens a 2-1 lead they never lost. Dimaso hit a 2-run inside-the-park homer in the second and Kinsella homered in the third.
