Harper College hosting Walk MS event on May 6

A Walk MS event to benefit the National Multiple Sclerosis Society will take place at 9 a.m. Sunday, May 6, at Harper College, 1200 W. Algonquin Road, Palatine.

Registration opens at 7:30 a.m. at parking lot 1. There are one- and three-mile options with resting points at the halfway mark, and fruit and water will be provided.

Among the teams participating is Kurkas for a Cure, made up partly of Palatine firefighters. Chad Kurka, president of the local firefighter union, is the brother of Celeste Kurka, who’s participated in 13 previous walks since being diagnosed with MS 16 years ago. The team is out to raise $5,000.

There are 12 other events taking place Saturday throughout Illinois, including walks in Lake in the Hills, Naperville and St. Charles. For more information, visit walkild.nationalmssociety.org.
