Softball/Fox Valley roundup
Grayslake North’s Kristina Gandy allowed Cary-Grove just 2 hits and the Trojans committed 4 errors in losing a 4-1 decision to the Knights in Fox Valley Conference crossover softball action Thursday.
Gandy did walk 5 but the Trojans (19-5) couldn’t take advantage of the baserunners.
“We just did not hit today,” said Cary-Grove coach Tammy Olson.
Lindsay Efflandt (16-4) suffered the loss in the circle, allowing 8 hits with 2 strikeouts and 3 walks.
Jacobs 10, Hampshire 0: McKayla Lein tossed a 2-hitter as Jacobs (14-9) rolled to a FVC crossover win. Jacquelyn Hengler (3-for-4, HR, 2 RBI), Alyssa Lach (2-for-3, 2B, HR, 2 RBI) and Danielle O’Toole (2B, RBI) led the Golden Eagles. Jen Hurst took the loss for Hampshire (10-15).
Burlington Central 11, North Boone 0: Brooke Gaylord was 4-for-4 with a home run to lead the Rockets (17-7, 4-2) to an easy Big Northern East win. Rebecca Roscher was 3-for-4 for BC and Tori Harvey added a double. Freshman Kassi Gaylord made her first pitching decision a win, striking out 7 and walking 3 while allowing just 3 hits.
Woodstock North 5, Huntley 4: Ashley Laxner was 3-for-4 with 2 doubles and an RBI, Tara Lycos went 2-for-4 with 2 RBI and Haley Spannraft was 2-for-4 for Huntley in this FVC crossover loss. Spannraft (3-9) was the losing pitcher for the Red Raiders (4-15).
Metea Valley 9, South Elgin 6: Brittany Koss was 3-for-4 with a double and 2 RBI and Mallory Mecklenburg went 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI for South Elgin in this Upstate Eight Valley defeat. Paige Allen also drove in 2 runs for the Storm (8-16, 5-6). Sam Bolin (6-9) was the losing pitcher.
CL South 11, Johnsburg 1: Heather Eck (4-0) tossed a 1-hitter with 5 strikeouts and no walks to lead the Gators (15-6) to an FVC crossover win. Alli Bochat (2-for-4, 2B, 2 RBI) and Jenica Terry (2-for-2, 2B, 2 RBI) led CL South’s hitting.
