Defense, Shepard goal lift Grayslake Central

Emma Shepard scored in the first half off an assist from Carson Sparkman, and keeper Kajal Chokshi made 6 saves, as Grayslake Central’s girls soccer team shut out host Woodstock North 1-0 Thursday.

The Rams improved to 9-5 and 3-1 in the Fox Valley Conference.

“Our defense has been great all year, and they keep us in every game,” Grayslake Central coach Mike McCaulou said. “Another great performance defensively today.”

Grayslake North 2, Woodstock 1: Katie McGrath finished a pass from Sam Villwock late in the opening half to snap a 1-1 tie, and the goal held up in the Fox Valley Conference match.

Sophomore Chelsea Olson scored the Knights’ first goal, with Jaclyn Brennan earning the assist.

“We managed to get the job done, even though we did not feel we were at our best,” Grayslake North coach Adam DeCaluwe said after his team improved to 11-5-1. “We struggled to knock the ball around as effectively as we know we can, but managed to limit Woodstock’s attacking options as well as capitalize on enough of our chances to put the game away.”

Mundelein 7, Antioch 0: Kaila Cancelli scored the hat trick and added an assist for the visiting Mustangs in the North Suburban Conference crossover.

Megan Carroll, Michele Chernesky, Hailey Talbot and Cristy Nambo also scored for Mundelein (4-9-2).

Cristina Loverde made 4 saves in earning the shutout.

Stevenson 5, Grant 0: Olivia Whalen and Katie Krejsa each had 2 goals and an assist for the host Patriots in the North Suburban crossover.

Stevenson (9-3-2) also got a goal from Hannah Levi.

Keeper Cori Calcaterra got the shutout, stopping 3 shots.

Warren 3, Lakes 0: Lexi Reyes scored twice and Choe Juergensen also got a goal for the Blue Devils in the North Suburban crossover.

Rylee Parker had an assist and Amanda Macuiba made 2 saves for Warren (5-6-3).

Lake Zurich 3, Evanston 0: At Barrington, Vanesa Abad had 2 goals, and Nicole Rasiarmos also scored for the Bears in the Naperville Invitational match.

Meaghan Gelinas, Katie McCullough and Blair Coughenour had assists for Lake Zurich (8-5-1).
