South Elgin improved to 14-3 overall and 11-2 in the Valley Division of the Upstate Eight Conference with a 9-1 victory over Waubonsie Valley Tuesday.
Pitcher David Palmer upped his record to 4-2. He struck out 8, walked 4 and allowed 6 hits in 5 innings. Chris Bingham doubled twice and drove in 2 runs, Nevan Jeske doubled twice and drove in a run, and Nick Binder and Palmer each contributed 2 hits and drove in a run for South Elgin.
Streamwood 5, Elgin 1: The Sabres avoided the 3-game sweep behind the strong pitching of left-handed senior Dalton Lundeen, who allowed only 4 hits and struck out 10 in a complete-game performance. Richie Gorski had 3 hits and 2 RBI, Alex Morrow had 2 hits and 1 RBI and Michael Smith drove in 2 runs for the Sabres (8-14, 4-9). Eric Daly (0-5) took the loss, though he limited the Sabres to 3 earned runs on 6 hits in 5 innings. Gage Teschner had 2 hits for Elgin (6-14, 2-11).
Lake Park 10, Bartlett 6: Three Bartlett pitchers combined to allow 16 hits in this Upstate Eight Valley defeat, in which the Lancers overcame a 6-5 deficit with 5 runs in the final three innings to win the rubber game of the series. Colin Nowak allowed 8 runs (7 earned) on 12 hits in 5 innings. He also went 3-for-4 with a double and 4 RBI for Bartlett (10-12, 5-8).
Geneva 12, Larkin 1: Visiting Geneva gathered 11 hits and capitalized on 4 Larkin errors in this UEC River contest. Brayden Royse (2-3) took the loss for Larkin (7-14, 4-9) after allowing 12 runs (7 earned) on 11 hits and 2 walks in 3 innings.
St. Edward 3, Guerin 2: Freshman left-hander Jake LaFrenz improved to 5-2 by holding Guerin to 1 earned run on 4 hits in a complete-game victory. Trailing 2-0, the Green Wave rallied for 3 runs in the bottom of the fifth, courtesy of a Luke Duffy's RBI single and Tighe Koehring's 2-run double. Ryan Nudd also doubled for St. Edward (16-12, 6-5).
Burlington Central 19, North Boone 3: The Rockets exploded for 16 hits in this Big Northern East road victory. Tanner Scott hit his ninth home run of the season and 36th of his four-year career. He also doubled and drove in 4 runs. Ray Hunnicutt went 3-for-4 with a double and scored 5 runs, Cody Wallace was 3-for-4 with 3 RBI, and Kevin Zasada had 2 hits and 2 RBI for Burlington Central (15-6, 4-0).
Jacobs 1, McHenry 0: Greg Mixon threw a complete-game 2-hitter to lift the Golden Eagles in Fox Valley Conference Valley Division action. Mixon (3-1) struck out 6 and walked 2. Jacobs (12-6, 7-1) remained tied for first place in the Valley with Cary-Grove by making the most of 3 hits by Mark Self, Greg Sidor and Connor Conzelman (double).
Crystal Lake South 2, Huntley 1: Zack Geib hurled a complete-game 3-hitter for the Gators. He struck out 9 and walked 1 to improve to 6-2. He outdueled Jake Perkins (2-1), who allowed only 2 earned runs on 8 hits with 8 strikeouts and 2 walks. Jordan Van Dyck homered and drove in 2 runs for CL South (15-7, 7-2). The only run for Huntley (11-10, 4-5) came on Mark Skonieczny's home run in the top of the seventh.
Cary-Grove 5, Hampshire 1: Zach Marszal tossed a complete-game 3-hitter, Nick Beyer went 2-for-4 with a double and Ryan Slaughter was 3-for-3 with a double to lift Valley Division leader Cary-Grove (14-7, 7-1) to a Fox Valley Conference road victory. Tyler Crater went 2-for-3 and Justin Thinger took the loss in 3 innings of work for Hampshire (7-12-1, 1-9).
Prairie Ridge 12, Dundee-Crown 4: Dundee-Crown amassed 10 hits but couldn't match the effectiveness of the Wolves' 12-hit attack in the FVC Valley. Chris Gorman (0-2), who allowed 6 hits, walked 4 and hit 2 batters in 2 innings. At the plate, Gorman had 2 hits and drove in a run, Jake Romano was 2-for-3 with a double and RBI, and recent call-up Zach Girard went 2-for-4 with a triple for Dundee-Crown (6-11-1, 3-5).
College baseball
Judson clinches conference title: Judson University clinched the first Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference title in program history Tuesday with a sweep of Purdue-Calumet, 5-0 and 16-2. The title automatically qualifies the Eagles for the NAIA Tournament opening round May 10-14.
Huntley graduate Craig Lipp had a no hitter going for the first 6 innings of Game 1. He struck out 6 to earn his sixth win of the season and T.J. Swank homered and drove in 3. In Game 2, Cameron Balough went 4-for-4 with a home run and 7 RBI, and Billy Wright homered and drove in 3 for Judson (40-10, 25-4).
Elgin Community College splits: The ECC baseball team was drubbed 12-0 by Madison College in Game 1 of a doubleheader, but the Spartans rebounded with a 3-1 victory in the nightcap, thanks to a complete-game 6-hitter by Liam Pegg (3-2). “It was big to comeback after being uninspired in the first game,” ECC coach Bill Angelo said.
Ryan Richardson went 2-for-3 with 2 RBI and Bobby Thorson had 2 hits in the second game for ECC (21-15, 10-4)
