Teele’s blast big for Schaumburg

Little did Schaumburg know how big Brayden Teele’s solo homer in the second inning would be in Friday’s Mid-Suburban League baseball crossover at Buffalo Grove.

The Saxons wouldn’t score again but Matt Brancato and Jordan Grubb made sure they stayed in front in a 3-2 victory.

Teele put Schaumburg (11-9, 3-3) up 3-0 as Brancato threw a complete-game 4-hitter with 1 strikeout and 1 walk and also had 2 hits. Grubb threw out the potential tying run at the plate on a flyout to end the sixth inning.

Jimmy Pinakidis went 2-for-3 for BG (8-12, 3-3).

Palatine 5, Prospect 3: Two days ago, a mistake by a Palatine baserunner cost Jarrod Juskiewicz a home run. But in Friday’s MSL crossover, Juskiewicz hit a 2-run homer in the sixth that provided some crucial insurance and a 5-1 lead.

Winning pitcher Dan Riddle went 523 innings and also hit a solo homer for the Pirates (8-13, 3-3), Kurt Becker went 2-for-2 with an RBI double and Scott Schneberger had a sacrifice fly. Eric Krohm had an RBI single in the fourth for Prospect (6-12, 3-3) and in the sixth, Jackson Wrede had an RBI groundout and Nico Witanen (3-for-4) had an RBI single to cut the deficit to 2 runs.

But Nick Refka struck out dangerous Jack Landwehr to leave the bases loaded and Eric Scheuermann pitched a perfect seventh for the save. Sophomore Jordan Fedro had 8 strikeouts in 6 innings for Prospect.

Fremd 11, Elk Grove 2: Fremd was quietly being shut down by Elk Grove’s Dan Guido with two outs and nobody on in the top of the sixth of the MSL crossover. Then came a 5-run outburst followed by a 6-run seventh to give Jason English a complete-game 6-hit victory.

Guido was working on a 3-hitter with a 2-0 lead and had retired nine straight hitters when Matt Wisniewski walked. Josh Jyawook (2-for-4) singled, Wisniewski scored on a wild pitch and Jon Escobar had a tying RBI single.

Matt Isola singled, Connor Bieda had a tiebreaking RBI single and Tim Polak (3-for-4, 3 RBI) followed with a 2-run double for Fremd (11-7, 4-2).

Polak had an RBI single and Keith Giagnorio had a 2-run double in support of English, who had 8 strikeouts and 3 walks and threw 67 of his 100 pitches for strikes. Jack Czeszewski went 2-for-4 with 2 doubles as Elk Grove (12-6, 4-2) went ahead 2-0 in the second on an RBI single by Patrick O’Malley and with Luc Dimaso scoring on an attempted double steal.

Conant 4, Hersey 1: Dan Durr pitched out of jams in the sixth and seventh to throw a complete game as Conant (7-8, 3-3) won the MSL crossover and sent Hersey (12-4, 3-3) to its third straight loss. Durr had 2 strikeouts and 2 walks and left runners at first and second in the final two innings with a strikeout and a groundout.

Conant did all of its offensive damage the first two innings with Kyle Gizynski getting an RBI groundout in the first. Bill Grzelek’s single and Nick Monelli’s sacrifice set up RBI singles by Losch and Nick Blaha and an RBI double Gizynski.

Sean Reszotko had a third-inning sacrifice fly for Hersey and David Milligan and James Ioratti had 2 hits apiece.

Rolling Meadows 4, Hoffman Estates 2: Mickey Wazorick and Matt Hendricks combined on a 4-hitter and Mike Olson drove in 2 runs as Meadows (12-7, 4-2) broke a 4-game losing streak in the MSL crossover. Wazorick allowed 1 earned run in 6 innings and had 5 strikeouts and 2 walks while Hendricks ended a potential game-tying threat with a strikeout and groundout.

John Burkiewicz had an RBI single and Olson had a sacrifice fly in the third for Meadows. Wazorick’s leadoff double in the fifth led to RBI singles by Olson and Mike Weingart.

Ethan Bloom’s 2 doubles for Hoffman (8-11, 2-4) led to a run on an error in the second and a sacrifice fly by Jimmy Ward in the seventh.

Barrington 5, Wheeling 1: Frank Waliczek had a pair of doubles in support of winner Max Redpath for visiting Barrington (13-5, 4-2) in the MSL crossover. Kalvin Thong’s homer was one of only 2 hits for Wheeling (1-18, 0-6).
