Bartlett 2, Neuqua Valley 1: Bartlett pitcher Colin Nowak struck out 11, walked 1 and held the Daily Herald’s top-ranked team, Neuqua Valley, to 6 hits to lead the Hawks to a 2-1 victory in Upstate Eight Valley action Tuesday. Nowak allowed only 1 unearned run on a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning. Bartlett rallied for 2 runs in the bottom of the fifth when Dan Gallanis delivered a 2-run, two-out double against Neuqua Valley pitcher Nick Blackburn, scoring Anthony Dyrkacz (walk) and Robert Smith (single). The victory improved Bartlett to 7-9, 3-5.
Burlington Central 6, Richmond-Burton 2: Blake Alexander singled in the go-ahead run in the fifth inning and Zach Ranney hit a 3-run homer in the sixth to lift Central to the Big Northern East home win. Ranney (4-0) scattered 9 hits over 7 innings and struck out 7 without a walk to earn the win for the Rockets (13-5, 3-0).
South Elgin 13, East Aurora 2: David Palmer (4-1) held the Tomcats to 4 hits, he walked 3 and struck out 8 in 6 innings to lead the Storm to an Upstate Eight Valley road victory. Nick Binder doubled and drove in 3 runs and Nevan Jeske had 3 hits for South Elgin (10-2, 7-1).
Batavia 2, Streamwood 1: University of Illinois recruit Richie Gorski went 2-for-3 with a triple and he allowed only 5 hits and a walk with 5 strikeouts in 7 innings pitched, however, the Bulldogs scored in the bottom of the seventh to earn the UEC River victory against the Sabres (7-10, 3-5).
St. Charles North 5, Larkin 1: Dylan Ganow went 2-for-3 with a double, but the Royals otherwise managed 3 hits against Jake Johansmeier, who went the distance for the North Stars. Sophomore Brayden Royse allowed 5 runs (4 earned) on 6 hits in 6 innings for Larkin (6-9, 3-4).
St. Charles East 2, Elgin 0: Elgin starting pitcher Alex Doty struck out 7 without a walk and allowed only 2 runs (1 earned) on 4 hits in 6 innings, but he was outdueled by Nick Huskisson, who pitched a complete-game 3 hitter for the Saints with 1 walk and 8 strikeouts. Elgin slipped to 4-11, 0-8.
Rockford Christian 11, Westminster Christian 4: Defense doomed the Warriors in this home loss despite a 3-for-4 day by Ryan Perez. Westminster Christian (10-7, 4-1) committed 5 errors behind losing pitcher Zack Edwards (3-3).
Jacobs 12, Woodstock 5: Mark Self went 3-for-5 with 2 home runs and 6 RBI to lead the offense in a in Fox Valley Conference road victory Tuesday. Greg Mixon allowed 4 runs (1 earned), struck out 5 and walked a pair in 5 innings to earn the win for the Golden Eagles (9-6, 4-1).
Cary-Grove 13, Johnsburg 0: The Trojans (11-6, 5-0) won their seventh straight game, helped by 8 hits and 7 Johnsburg errors. Ryan Kaveney improved to 5-0 by holding the Skyhawks to 3 hits over 3 innings.
McHenry 7, Hampshire 5: Luke Wians had 2 hits and drove in 2 runs, but the visiting Warriors scored twice in the fifth inning to take a 6-5 lead and added an insurance run in the seventh to win the FVC crossover. Tyler Crater allowed 7 earned runs on 10 hits in 7 innings for Hampshire (7-7-1, 1-4).
Grayslake North 3, Huntley 2: The Knights scored single runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings and held Huntley to 5 hits in a Fox Valley Conference crossover. Colin Lyman went 2-for-4 with 2 stolen bases. Dan Lowry (2-1) took the loss in relief for Huntley (10-7, 3-2).
Crystal Lake South 12, Crystal Lake Central 2: The Gators’ 12-hit attack against their crosstown rivals was led by Tyler Salm (4-for-5, 3 RBI), Jordan Van Dyck (2-for-3, 2 RBI) and Will Ahsmann (3-for-4, 2 runs). Zack Geib (5-2) allowed only 1 earned run on 8 hits in 6 innings for CL South (13-6, 5-1).
College baseball
Judson sweeps: Matt McHenry collected 4 hits, including a double and 2 home runs, and he drove in 4 runs to pace Judson’s doubleheader sweep of Trinity Christian College by scores of 5-2 and 4-3. Craig Lipp struck out 6 to earn the win in Game 1. Ben Palmer pitched 2 innings of in relief in Game 2 and became the winning pitcher when Josh Raymond hit a 3-1 pitch for a walkoff home run for Judson (36-9, 21-3).
ECC drops a pair: Elgin Community College was swept by Oakton, 5-0 and 3-2. Art Sutter and Liam Pegg were the losing pitchers for ECC (15-12, 8-4).
