Girls soccer/Fox Valley roundup
The Jacobs girls soccer team played tough defense Thursday night but the offense couldn’t find the back of the net in a 1-0 loss at New Trier in the second round of the Pepsi Showdown.
Alyssa Koeppler made 6 saves for the Golden Eagles (7-4-2), who will resume consolation play in the tournament on Saturday.
Cary-Grove 2, Crystal Lake Central 0: The Trojans (5-4-1) scored their only 2 goals in the first half and held off the Tigers to earn a Fox Valley Conference victory. Korey Kronforst recorded both goals while Kate Boyd and Allison Budreck each added an assist. Paige Lincicum earned the shutout in goal with 4 saves.
Rosary 2, St. Edward 0: Paige Gannon turned away 7 shots on goal, but the Green Wave (3-4, 1-2) were unable to find the back of the net as they fell to the Royals in this Suburban Christian Conference game.
Burlington Central 6, Genoa-Kingston 1: The Rockets (6-4) jumped out to an early 4-0 after one half of play and added 2 more insurance goals in the second half to earn a Big Northern East victory. Maddie Stoneman and Camille Dela Cruz each recorded 2 goals and 1 assist to lead the Rockets while Cali Andrew and Courtney Andrew also recorded 1 goal a piece. Caitlin Solberg recorded 5 saves in goal.
Harvest Christian 2, Kirkland-Hiawatha 1: After falling behind 1-0 in the first half of play, the Lions (2-3) surged back to earn the 2-1 victory at home. Callie Arosen scored off of a feed from Sydney Doby, and then Doby scored a goal of her own on a penalty kick. Tori Nelson stopped 6 shots on goal for the Lions.
Huntley 0, Deerfield 0: The Red Raiders (5-3-3) played to a scoreless draw against Deerfield at the Pepsi Showdown. Jessica Galason was not tested in goal while Kelli Rubino recorded 5 saves for the Red Raiders.
Hampshire 3, Dundee-Crown 0: The Whip-Purs (3-4-3, 1-0-2) earned their first Fox Valley Conference victory as they defeated the Chargers (1-10) at home. Helena VanEck paced the Whips’ with 2 goals and 1 assist while Natalie Starrenburg recorded 1 goal and 2 assists. Jori Anderson chipped in an assistas well and Haylee Moscato turned away 4 shots on goal to preserve the shutout.
Crystal Lake South 5, Johnsburg 0: Gianna DiSarno (4 saves) and Tara O’Malley (3 saves) combined for the shut out in goal asthe Gators defeated Johnsburg in Fox Valley Conference action. Bianca Miceli recorded a hat trick to pace the Gators while Samantha Vasquez added the other 2 goals to close out the scoring.
