Barton sisters leads BG’s victory over Schaumburg

The Barton sisters were Buffalo Grove’s RBI girls on Wednesday.
Freshman Dea Barton and junior Erin Barton each had a pair of RBI as BG shut out visiting Schaumburg 4-0 in a Mid-Suburban League crossover softball game.
Freshman Julia Camardo (3-3) threw a 4-hitter with 5 strikeouts as BG improved to 6-7 and 1-1 in the MSL East.
BG jumped ahead 1-0 in the second inning when Dea Barton singled home Erin with one out.
BG added 3 runs in the third, getting a 2-run single by Erin Barton to score Megan Fu and Sara Penelle and an RBI single by Dea Barton allowing Amana Salzman to cross the place.
Schaumburg senior Renee Kakareka (2-2) allowed 6 hits.
Alyssa Lancaster (2-for-3), Courtney Plackner (1-for-2) and Dana Giannelli (1-for-3) led the Saxons (6-3, 1-1).
Prospect 6, Palatine 1: Senior Hanna Lythberg (3-5) threw a 2-hitter with 9 strikeouts for the host Knights (4-8, 1-1).
Eight of the nine Prospect hitters had at least 1 hit. The Knights were led at the plate by Amy Graham (3-for-3, 2 RBI).
Palatine took a 1-0 lead in the third when Grace Rohrwasser reached on an infield error and came home on a two-out single by Lauren Logan (1-for-3, 2 stolen bases).
Megan Hedstrom (1-for- 2, walk) had the other hit for the Pirates (8-6, 1-1).
Prospect answered with 4 runs in the bottom of the third when Julie Mazur doubled to left center with one out. Jill Sadowski then doubled home Mazur.
One out later, Stephanie Sofinski singled to right to score Sadowski and took second on the throw home.
Michele Molini followed with an RBI single to score Sofinski, and Molini later stole home for the fourth run.
Prospect added 2 runs in the fifth when Graham singled home Sofinski and Molini with one out.
“Hanna Lythberg was amazing again and I was glad that we finally provided some run support for her,” said Prospect coach Jim Adair. “It was really nice to see Amy Graham have such a big day. As a senior, she’s one of our four leaders and has been at every winter workout and open gym all year long.
“She has paid her dues and had a great day. Amy is the poster child for ‘Hard Working Softball Players’ and that clutch work in the fifth inning is one of the rewards of that hard work.”
Conant 20 Hersey 8: Allie Bauch (3-for-6, RBI), Rachel O’Malley (2-for-6, 2 RBI) and Miranda Cavin (2-for-6, home run, 2 RBI) led the offense for visiting Conant (10-1, 2-0).
Briana Cavin (9-1) was the winning pitcher. Her sister Miranda clubbed a 3-run homer in the seventh innings.
Hersey pitcher Sara Platt collected 2 doubles for heresy (6-6, 0-2) and Angela Schmiederer had one.
Top hitters for Hersey were Alex Tinaglia (2-for-4, RBI), Alysia Zaucha (3-for-4, 2 RBI), Schmiededer (2-for-4) and Platt (3-for-5, 2 RBI).
Barrington 8, Wheeling 1: Barrington became the first MSL team to win 12 games as senior Emma Woods (4-0) notched threw a 3-hitter with 8 strikeouts and 1 walk.
Ally McLaughlin (3-for-5), Loren Krzysko (2-for-4), and Morgan Olszewski (2-for-3, double) led the offense for visiting Barrington (12-2, 2-0) which also received a double from Tess Bolger.
Ashlye Hafertepe had a double for Wheeling (1-5, 0-2).
Rolling Meadows 2, Hoffman Estates 0: Junior Sara Brunlieb (6-3) tossed a 2-hitter with 8 strikeouts for the host Mustangs (7-3, 1-1).
Meadows scored twice in the bottom of the fifth inning on Emily Hattory’s one-out double scoring Kelly Sarussi and on a groundout by Natalie Cannizzo which scored Jenny Watson.
Josie Suchecki, Sarussi and Sarah Caprio also had hits for Meadows.
Hawks freshman Charlotte Allan (2-6) gave up only 4 hits and struck out three. Shante Hill and Alexis Filler had the hits for Hoffman (2-7-1, 0-2).
Leyden 2, York 0: Senior Morgan Maize (9-3) earned the win for Leyden (11-3) as senior Melissa Dziadosz hit the game-winning 2-run triple in the bottom of sixth.
Maine West 23, Maine East 1 (5 inn.): Warriors pitcher Tara Nykiel (2-3) threw a 1-hitter with 8 strikeouts for Maine West (9-6) in the Central Suburban North opener played on Tuesday. Leading hitters for West were Ariel Valles (3-for-4), Katie Fitzgerald (3-for-4) and Brie Montmarquette (3-for-4).
