Down to its last two outs and trailing Crystal Lake Central 3-2 in the bottom of the ninth inning Tuesday, Danielle O’Toole suicide squeezed in Courtney Cotugno with the game-winning run as the Golden Eagles pulled out a 4-3 win. Cotugno had driven in Nicky Chapa with the tying run. Chapa reached on a two-out sun-aided triple.
Cotugno also drove in the game-tying run in the bottom of the seventh.
“We hung in there and persevered,” said Jacobs coach Jeremy Bauer. “Central hit it extremely well but we wouldn’t give up.”
McKayla Lein (3-1) picked up the win for Jacobs (7-4), going all 9 innings. She struck out 3 and walked 1.
Huntley 13, Hampshire 2: Sophomore Angela Tribuzio had a big day for the Red Raiders, going 4-for-4 with 2 doubles and 5 RBI as Huntley rolled to a Fox Valley Conference crossover win. Tara Lycos was 2-for-4 with an RBI for Huntley (3-9) and Ashley Knutsen had 2 RBI. Haley Spannraft picked up the win, striking out 8, walking 3 and allowing 4 hits. Jen Hurst took the loss for Hampshire (6-8). Jordan Hook had a double and an RBI for the Whip-Purs.
Larkin 10, East Aurora 0: Kiernan Schock threw a 5-inning 1-hitter with 10 strikeouts as Larkin (3-13, 1-2) won in the Upstate Eight. Jaclyn Saurbaugh (2-for-3, 2 doubles, 2 RBI, 3 RS), Alex Buhrow (3-for-4, RBI), Beth Barry (2-for-3, 2 RBI), Schock (2-for-3, 2B, RBI) and Lexi Smithberg (2-for-4, 2 RS) led the Royals’ offense.
CL South 11, Woodstock North 1: Sam McLean was 3-for-3 with 2 doubles, a triple and 4 RBI to lead the Gators (9-1) to a Fox Valley Conference crossover win. Liz Adams went 2-for-3 with an RBI for Crystal Lake South and Sam Golf (3-0) scattered 5 hits with 3 strikeouts and a walk for the win.
Grayslake Central 9, Dundee-Crown 4: Jessica Lewandowski had 2 hits for the Chargers (4-7) in this FVC crossover loss. Melany Love (2-1) suffered the pitching loss for D-C.
Neuqua Valley 12, Streamwood 2: Andrea Barajas was 2-for-3 and Brittany Delao and Alexa Ciegna each drove in runs for Streamwood (3-8, 0-4) in this Upstate Eight loss. Dani Fisher was the Sabres’ losing pitcher.
Cary-Grove 13, Woodstock 0: Lauren Stanley tossed a 2-hitter with 6 strikeouts and no walks as the Trojans (10-1) rolled to an FVC crossover win. Grace Pilz (2B), Rebecca Lowe (2-for-3, 2B, 2 RBI), Megan Leinenberg (2-for-3, RBI) and Tori White (3-for-3 led the Cary-Grove offense.
Batavia 12, South Elgin 2: The Storm committed 6 errors in this Upstate Eight loss. Alyssa Buddle was 2-for-2 with a triple and 2 RBI for South Elgin (4-11, 2-2). Sam Bolin (3-6) suffered the loss, allowing 3 earned runs in 4 innings.
Westminster sweeps: Rachel Fugiel struck out 11, allowed just 6 hits and had 2 hits including a home run and 2 RBI to lead Westminster Christian to a 9-6 Northeast Athletic Conference win over Christian Liberty in Game 1 of a doubleheader. Fugiel then hit a home run and went 3-for-3 with a double and 3 RBI in a 14-7 win in Game 2. Mikaila Hodge added 2 hits and 2 RBI in Game 2, and freshman Rachel Rich threw a 4-hitter for the win for the Warriors (3-1, 3-1).
College softball
Judson splits: Bri DiGiola went 4-for-6 with 2 home runs and 3 RBI as Judson split a CCAC doubleheader with Robert Morris, losing 6-1 and winning 2-1. Sarah Boyer had 11 strikeouts to earn her 11th win of the season in the nightcap.
