Larkin 4, Waubonsie Valley 1: Sophomore Brayden Royse pitched a complete-game 6-hitter to lead Larkin to a 4-1 Upstate Eight win over Waubonsie Valley Tuesday in Aurora.
Austin Royse (2-1) did not allow an earned run. He struck out 6 without a walk.
“He threw very well,” Larkin coach Matt Esterino said. “Good poise for a sophomore. He did a great job of challenging hitters.”
Jack Eckholm went 2-for-3 with a triple and drove in a run, Nate Young doubled and scored, and Dylan Ganow and Drew Shore each drove in runs with fielder’s choice grounders to power Larkin (5-7, 2-2).
Jacobs 7, Johnsburg 2: Jacobs won its fourth straight game and fifth in six outings in this Fox Valley Conference crossover triumph. Zac Camacho went 2-for-3 with a triple, a home run and 3 RBI, and Connor Conzelman tripled and drove in 3 runs. Greg Sidor and Kenny Finn each contributed 2 hits. Starting pitcher Greg Mixon (2-1) held the Skyhawks to 2 hits, struck out 3 and walked 3 in 4 innings to pick up the win for the Golden Eagles (6-5).
Batavia 11, Bartlett 1: Leadoff man Robert Smith tripled and scored, but that was the offensive highlight for the Hawks in a five-inning Upstate Eight Conference home defeat. Dan Gallanis allowed 9 runs (4 earned) on 9 hits to take the loss for Bartlett (6-7, 2-3), which dropped its second straight game.
St. Edward 5, Aurora Christian 1: The Green Wave bounced back from Monday’s 2-1 loss to the Eagles behind Jake Koehring’s complete-game 5-hitter. He allowed 1 earned run on 5 hits, struck out 8 and walked only 1 in a Suburban Christian Gold victory.
“He’s in a groove, spotting a lot of his stuff, throwing strikes” St. Edward coach Tim Dovichi said. “He’s kept his walks down.”
Koehring also went 3-for-4 at the plate and drove in a run, Michael Castoro went 2-for-4 with a double and Tyler Murawski singled and drove in 2 runs for St. Edward (10-9, 3-1)
Burlington Central 9, Marengo 6: The Rockets notched their first win in Big Northern East play behind a 12-hit attack, led by Bryan Cynova and Tanner Scott, each of whom went 2-for-4 with a double. Zach Ranney and Michael Scott each added 2 hits, and Ranney (3-0) picked up the victory on the mound for Burlington Central (9-5, 1-1), which won its third game in four tries.
Cary-Grove 10, Wheeling 1: The Trojans won their third straight game on the strength of an 8-hit attack that featured 5 extra basehits. Nick Beyer, Daniel Vilardo and Brandon McCumber each homered, and McCumber and Anthony Monfeli each doubled for the Trojans. Starting pitcher Zach Marszal earned the win for Cary-Grove (7-6).
Crystal Lake South 11, Woodstock 3: Starting pitcher Jordan Van Dyck improved to 5-0 on the season by limiting the Blue Streaks to 1 hit and striking out 3 in 2 innings of work in Fox Valley Conference action. Dom Winiecki went 3-for-3 and drove in 6 runs, Tyler Salm finished 3-for-5 and scored twice, and Van Dyck was 2-for-4 for the Gators (9-6, 1-1).
Grayslake Central 7, Huntley 5: Colin Lyman went 2-for4 with 2 stolen bases and Nick Corpolongo doubled and drove in a run, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Rams in a Fox Valley Conference road game. Craig Klein (3-2) took the loss for the Red Raiders (7-5, 1-1). He allowed 8 hits, 7 runs (5 earned), struck out 2 and walked none in 3 innings.
Crystal Lake Central 11, Dundee-Crown 5: The Tigers scored 7 runs in the second inning and amassed 15 hits overall to pull away from the Chargers in a Fox Valley Conference game in Crystal Lake.
“They came out hitting,” D-C coach Tommy Parisi said. “We hit, too. They hit more. Too much.”
Ryan Suwanski tripled and drove in a run and Chris Gorman went 2-for-2 with a walk for the Chargers. Erik Brewer (1-2) absorbed the loss for Dundee-Crown (4-6-1, 1-1).
College baseball
Elgin Community College sweeps College of Lake County: Trailing 8-7 in Game 1, the Spartans rallied for 4 runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to win 11-8 and make a winner of Streamwood graduate Dom Tatone (3-1), who pitched 3 innings. Rob Thorson and David Mutter each homered and Ryan Richardson tripled.
Art Sutter (1-2) allowed only 1 earned run on 5 hits to complete the sweep with a 5-1 victory, marking the 498th career win for ECC coach Bill Angelo.
