Huntley’s Doherty spins no-hitter

After losing its first two games of the season, the Huntley baseball team has bounced back to win 4 straight after Thursday’s 10-0 win over Palatine.

The Red Raiders’ Bryan Doherty did it in style, as he threw a no-hitter in the seven-inning game. Doherty struck out 11 and walked 1.

Nick Corpolondo (2-for-3) scored 2 runs for Huntley, while Tyler Mundak (2-for-2, 2 RBI), Brody Burkart (2 RBI), Colin Lyman (2B0 and Bryce Only (2B) contributed to Huntley’s 11-hit offense.

Bartlett 1, Prospect 0: Bartlett’s Colin Nowak tossed a 1-hitter with 7 strikeouts and 2 walks and Bartlett scored the game’s only run in the fifth inning of this nonconference game. Kyle Garcia’s RBI single lifted the Hawks (2-3) to the win over Prospect’s Jack Landwehr, an Illinois State recruit.

St. Edward 6, Streamwood 0: Michael Castro was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI and winning pitcher Jacob Koehring had a double and 2 RBI to lead St. Edward past Streamwood and Zach Harris. Tighe Koehring added 2 hits and 2 RBI for the Green Wave (5-5). Jacob Koehring fired a 1-hitter with 4 strikeouts and no walks. “It was an overall solid effort,” said St. Edward coach Tim Dovichi. We executed everything well. We wanted this win.”

Stevenson 2, CL South 1: Tommy Gaede had a triple and Tyler Salm a double and an RBI but the Gators allowed a run in the bottom of the ninth inning of this nonconference game. Tyler Hall suffered the loss for CL South.

Deerfield 6, Jacobs 3: Connor Conzelman had a double for Jacobs (1-4) in this nonconference loss. Max Rider was the losing pitcher for the Golden Eagles.

Buffalo Grove 7, Elgin 6: BG used an infield error in the bottom of the 10th inning to help score the winning run in this nonconference game. Derek Strohmaier (2 hits, 2B, RBI), Gage Teschner (2 hits, 3 RBI) and Devin Simon (3-for-5) led the offense for Elgin (1-2). Eric Daly was the Maroons’ losing pitcher.

Burlington Central 9, Hinsdale South 7: Zach Ranney went 4-for-5 and Kevin Zasada and Mike Scott added 2 hits each to lead the Rockets (5-3). Ryan Schuring (2-0) picked up the win in relief. Zasada had a double, Blake Alexander a triple and Tanner Scott a home run for BC.
