Most DuPage towns want new electric options
Nearly all of the 17 DuPage County towns that voted on shared electrical service want a change, based on Tuesday’s election results.
Voters were asked whether they want electrical service from a vendor other than ComEd as part of a package deal through their village or city. Voters in 15 of those towns supported the measure.
Each question asked if the municipality should be allowed to arrange for the supply of electricity for residential and small commercial retail customers who have not opted out of such a program.
Many municipal officials believe combining electric accounts and seeking service from suppliers other than ComEd could save money for their residents.
Voters in Addison, Aurora, Bolingbrook, Darien, Downers Grove, Elmhurst, Hanover Park, Hinsdale, Itasca, Lemont, Lisle, Lombard, Warrenville, Westmont and Woodridge voted yes. Bartlett and Villa Park residents voted no.
