See what ECC board of trustees approved or authorized at public meeting

The Elgin Community College District 509 board of trustees approved several recommendations from college administrators during a public meeting on Dec. 11 at Elgin Community College. The meeting was held in the Building E (Fox Valley University and Business Center) Seigle Auditorium.

Chairman Robert McBride presided over the meeting attended by trustees John Duffy; Robert Getz, Eleanor MacKinney, Clare Ollayos, and Donna Redmer.

The trustees voted to approve, adopt, authorize, affirm, or accept:

Ÿ Appointment and seating of Risé D. Jones to the seat vacated by John G. Dalton. Dalton resigned effective Dec. 3 after being elected as a Kane County Judge in the Nov. 6 general election.

Ÿ The 2012 property tax levy totaling $55,019,181 to fund the year 2013. The levy request represents a 3.03 percent increase over the previous year.

Ÿ Minutes from the Nov. 13 regular board meeting and closed session, and the Dec. 1 special meeting and closed session

Ÿ Abatement of the debt service taxes in the 2012 tax levy as they relate to the Build America Payments or rebates expected to be received in 2013 as related to the series 2009B and 2009C taxable general obligation bonds. The total amount that will be abated is $835,581.

Ÿ Instructional fee recommendations for fiscal year 2014. Academic deans perform an annual, in-depth analysis of all courses to determine whether fees need to be increased, decreased, or remain the same.

Ÿ The 2014-2015 academic calendar.

Ÿ The 2013 board meeting schedule.

Ÿ A forensic workstation from Digital Intelligence (New Berlin, Wis.) for $28,416. The workstation will be used in the college’s implementation of a digital forensics program.

Ÿ A contract with Paddock Publications (Arlington Heights) for an amount not to exceed $42,000 for advertising, marketing, printing, and translation services.

Ÿ Purchase of 13 Roland digital pianos and a conferencing system from Cordogan’s Pianoland (Geneva) for $37,246. The pianos and system are for the Arts Center’s music program.

Ÿ Purchase of furniture from Interiors for Business (Batavia) for $35,768. The furniture is for a training room in Building E, the University and Business Center.

Ÿ Purchase of Cisco network equipment from Heartland Business Systems (Lisle) for $44,752.

Ÿ An extended leave of absence for Assistant Professor of Counseling Manuel Salgado.

Ÿ Resolution of appreciation and award of emeritus status for Professor/Counselor Patricia Jachowicz.

Ÿ Resolution of appreciation for trustee John G. Dalton.

Ÿ Hiring of adjunct instructor John Mravik as an instructor of English.

The next regular board meeting will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 22, beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the Building E Seigle Auditorium at the college, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin.
