Advocate Good Shepherd Auxiliary offering scholarships

Students who reside in Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital service area and who will attend a college or university in Illinois to pursue a degree in a health-related field may apply for an Auxiliary of Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital scholarship.

The Auxiliary has made scholarships available since 1979; as of 2011, over one-half million dollars has been awarded to 516 students. The auxiliary budget designates scholarship monies from its fundraising projects of Art in the Barn, Catchpenny and Pear Tree Gift Shop, and in 2011 the Auxiliary Scholarship Committee added additional monies by hosting progressive dinners, “Dining for Our Stars.” The Committee is planning a similar event on Saturday, April 28, 2012.

The GSH service area includes the following zip codes: 60010, 60012, 60013, 60014, 60021, 60042, 60047, 60050, 60051, 60060, 60067, 60073, 60084, 60098, 60102, 60110 and 60156.

The number of scholarships to be awarded will be based on the numbers and qualifications of applicants. Current references, transcripts, and proof of acceptance from the institution and acceptance into a health care professional program are required. Applicants will be evaluated on the basis of attitude and desire toward education, leadership, citizenship, personality and financial need.

Applications must be postmarked or hand-delivered and filed with the Auxiliary Scholarship Committee no later than April 30, 2012. Finalists will be interviewed at Good Shepherd Hospital, Barrington. The recipients will be notified by early June. Applications are available on line (www.advocatehealth.com/gshp/scholarships) or call the Good

Shepherd Hospital volunteer office (1-847-381-0123, ext. 26-5104).
