COD hosts poet Amy Newman March 21

Amateur poets are invited to submit one unpublished work for the College of DuPage Prairie Poetry Contest, which culminates with a reading by poet Amy Newman at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 21, at the Glen Ellyn campus, 425 Fawell Blvd.

The contest, open to students and community members, is presented by the college's Writers Read Series. The deadline for submissions is Friday, Feb. 17.

Newman is the author of “Order, or Disorder,” “Camera Lyrica,” “fall” and “Dear Editor.” Her poems and essays have appears in numerous journals and anthologies in North America and Europe. She is recipient of three Individual Artists Fellowships, the Lexi Rudnitsky Editor's Price, the Beatrice Hawley Award, the Cleveland State University Poetry Center Prize and a MacDowell Colony Fellow.

Prior to her March 21 reading, Newman will lead an hour-long workshop with the poetry contest winners.
