Buffalo Grove tops Palatine
Buffalo Grove 33, Palatine 27: Bailey North (13 points), Emily Cho (11 points) and Kim Herzog (8) were top scorers for BG (4-12), which pitched a fourth-quarter shutout Tuesday in a Mid-Suburban League crossover victory in girls basketball.
Katelyn Mayer paced the host Pirates (10-6) with 10 points followed by McKenzie Wiedemann (9).
Elk Grove 51, Conant 44 (2 OT): Junior Diamond Boyd (16 points, 11 rebounds) helped lead visiting Elk Grove (9-6) to the double overtime win.
Classmate Kelly Naughton added 15 points, 4 assists and 3 steals for the Grens, who were coming off a sixth-place finish at the Wheaton North tournament.
Senior Natalie Kutrumanes led the Cougars (4-12) with 16 points while Allie Bauch added 8.
Ashley Bartuch, Bauch, Sarah Mazurek and Katie Lomas each had a 3-pointer for Conant.
Hersey 46, Schaumburg 31: Seniors Jen Hall (17 points) and Maggie Hogen (15 points, 15 rebounds) helped lead visiting Hersey to the crossover win.
The Huskies (8-8) were coming off a fifth-place finish at the Wheaton North tourney where they did not have an all-tourney selection.
“I love that tournament but I think the girls had something to prove after that,” said Huskies coach Mary Fendley. “They are not selfish and they weren’t looking for anything but I was a little disappointed for them.”
Renee Poulos and Corinne Busby each added 7 points for the Huskies. Busby had 4 steals.
“Corinne did a real nice job defensively,” added Fendley, whose team has won three in a row. “Hopefully this will turn things around for us.”
Schaumburg was led by Alyssa Saklak (8 points) and Amanda Kelly (8).
Rolling Meadows 42, Barrington 36: Mundelein tourney champ Rolling Meadows improved to 13-3 as Jackie Kemph (23 points), Alexis Glasgow (9) and Jenny Vliet (8) were top scorers.
Host Barrington (6-11) was led by Nicole Collins (12 points, 2 3-pointers) and Natasha Singh (9), who hit 3 3-pointers.
Alexa Resch pulled down 12 rebounds for the Fillies while Brooke Gunderson had 4.
Meadows outscored Barrington 14-2 in the second quarter.
“We gave them to many easy looks in that quarter,” said Fillies coach Babbi Barreiro. “Rolling Meadow is a good team and we were right there with them except for that second quarter.
“That’s what has been hurting us. We seem to have a letdown like that at some point every game. We’ve just got to keep battling through our mistakes.”
Wheeling 61, Hoffman Estates 51: Freshman Deanna Kuzmanic (20 points, 8 assists. 2 rebounds, 2 steals), senior Kellie Kuzmanic (14 points, 11 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals) and freshman Hannah Dobrowski (11 points, 3 rebounds) helped lead the way for visiting Wheeling (4-14).
Destinee Young scored 17 points for Hoffman (7-9) while Sara Burns and Mary Pettit (3 3-pointers) each chipped in 12. Becca Stoczynski added 8 for Hoffman.
Christian Liberty 29, Elgin Academy 20: Shelbi Hernandez (11 points), Megan Sullivan (7) and Vivian Barclay (6) led the Chargers (10-5).
