Waterleaf Restaurant Hosts Special 'Feast of Kings' Dinner Jan. 6

Waterleaf restaurant in Glen Ellyn will host a special “Feast of Kings” dinner on Friday, Jan. 6.

Dinner guests on Jan. 6 will receive a complimentary “Galette des Rois,” or King's Cake for dessert, which is a traditional flaky French puff pastry filled with “frangipan,” or almond crème. One of the cakes at each table will contain a trinket enclosed in the pastry. As French tradition dictates, whoever finds the prize is deemed “king for a day,” complete with a crown and free champagne from Waterleaf.

In France the 12th day of Christmas, La Fete des Rois, is a national holiday. This tradition is believed to date pre-Christian days when during the winter festival of Saturnialia, a mock king for the day was chosen by finding a special bean in a cake.
