Girls basketball/Fox Valley roundup

Even though the final scores don't indicate it, the top-ranked Bartlett girls basketball team hasn't exactly been lighting up the gym early in recent games.

That changed on Saturday.

Bartlett bolted out to a 20-6 lead after one quarter and 40-10 at halftime and then cruised to a 77-49 nonconference win on the road against No. 13 West Chicago.

“Our goal today was to come out strong,” said Bartlett coach Denise Sarna. “We hadn't been doing that lately. But we did today and that was nice to see.”

The Hawks (13-0) got a career day from senior Lisa Palmer, who scored a career-high 17 points, while adding 8 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals.

“Lisa had a really strong game,” Sarna said. “But it was another good team effort. Everyone played well today.”

Senior Haley Videckis added 18 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals for the Hawks, who led 59-24 after three quarters.
